About OpenSupplement

OpenSupplement.org is an independent, evidence-rated supplement reference built for people who want clear answers without the sales pitch.

Our Mission

The supplement industry is full of bold claims and weak evidence. Most supplement websites are either too clinical for consumers to use or too commercial to trust. We built OpenSupplement to sit in the gap: a reference resource that rates every supplement transparently against the actual research, presented in a format designed to be scannable and honest.

Think of it as Wikipedia meets a nutrition facts label — standardized, consistent, and free of hype.

Who We Are

OpenSupplement.org was created by the founder of Tojocu, LLC — an independent researcher and longtime supplement user who started this project out of personal frustration with the state of supplement information online. After developing a health condition that led to months of deep research into evidence-based interventions, it became clear that no existing resource provided what consumers actually need: a quick, honest, standardized way to compare supplements by evidence quality.

This site is the result of that research. Every supplement page is built from primary sources — peer-reviewed studies indexed in PubMed, NIH Office of Dietary Supplements fact sheets, and systematic reviews.

Medical review: Our content is currently being reviewed by qualified healthcare professionals. Content reviewed by our medical review team will display the reviewer’s credentials. Until a page has been reviewed, it will display “Medical review: pending.”

Editorial Independence

We are not affiliated with any supplement manufacturer, retailer, or brand. No company pays us to feature or rate their products. Our revenue comes from affiliate commissions when visitors purchase supplements through links on our site (see our Affiliate Disclosure). Affiliate relationships never influence our content or scores.

We do not accept sponsored content, paid reviews, or advertising placements.

How Our Scores Work

Every supplement on OpenSupplement.org is rated on 5 dimensions, each scored 1–5:

  1. Evidence Quality — How strong is the clinical research?
  2. Safety Profile — How safe is it at recommended doses?
  3. Interaction Risk — How many drug interactions are known? (Higher = fewer interactions = safer)
  4. Cost Accessibility — How affordable is a monthly supply at effective doses?
  5. Onset Speed — How quickly are effects typically noticed?

Scores are based on our editorial assessment of published research. For full details on what each score means, see our Scoring Methodology page.

Content Standards

  • Every claim is supported by cited research from peer-reviewed sources.
  • PubMed references are verified and linked directly.
  • We distinguish clearly between strong evidence (multiple human RCTs) and preliminary evidence (animal studies, mechanistic data).
  • When evidence is insufficient or conflicting, we say so.
  • Content is produced and maintained by the OpenSupplement Editorial Team.
